Its a fair statement to say that the most important video game console to ever come out was the Nintendo NES. There has yet to be a more influential system to ever hit the video game market. One only needs to look at all the franchises that were created from the 8-bit generation. With that being said, here are my Top Ten Greatest NES Games of all time:
10. Metroid: The game that brought incredible ambience and tone to the Nintendo generation. It was much more than your garden variety sci-fi shooter.
9: Contra: The classic co-op for the NES. Oh, yeah.....The code. It deserves to be on the list just for that reason alone. The granddaddy video code that gave you 30 lives.
8. Tecmo Bowl: Can hold up to any Madden Football Game. Maybe not in realism, but definitely in fun.
7. R.C. Pro Am: Incredibly simple and addictive. Even better than plating with real life radio control cars.
6: Mike Tyson's Punch Out: Completely over the top, but just a blast to play. The game had so much charm. For all its arcade fun though, it did require a lot of timing in order to beat some of the boxers.
5: Super Mario Bros: What would the NES, or Nintendo for that matter, be without this game? Completely revolutionary and arguably the most important video game of all time.
4: Tetris: How many hours were lost playing this game. Just watching blocks from a top of the screen to the bottom. Who knew?
3: Battletoads: Although the game was down right impossible to finish. The idea of playing the toads that fought was just too funny and original.
2: The Legend of Zelda: What "best of" list would be complete without this one? There had never been a game prior to this one which had such incredible scope and length of gameplay. Truly an epic, even to this day.
1: Super Mario Bros 3: Simply a perfect game! No too difficult that its frustrating. No too easy that it becomes boring. It had great re playability. What more could you ask for?
